Grease Trap Installation and Repair
Problems caused by grease producing restaurants and other establishments have served as a basis for governmental regulations for the discharge of grease materials into public sewers. This has forced the requirement for the installation of grease traps or interceptors as a means for preliminary treatment.A trap is a small reservoir built into the wastewater piping a short distance from the grease producing area. Baffles in the reservoir retain the wastewater long enough for the grease to congeal and rise to the surface for proper removal and disposal.
Grease Traps- A small reservoir built into the waste water piping a short distance from the grease producing area. Flow control valves and baffles in the reservoir retain the wastewater long enough for the grease to congeal and rise to the surface.
The grease can then be removed and disposed of properly
Grease Interceptors- A grease interceptor is a vault with a minimum capacity of 750 gallons and a maximum of 1250 gallons that is located on the exterior of the building. The capacity of the interceptor provides adequate residence time so that the wastewater has time to cool, allowing grease time to congeal and rise to the surface where it accumulates until the interceptor is cleaned.
Lint Traps- Designed to intercept buttons, coins, lint and any articles greater than 114"in diameter prior to entering the sanitary sewer system Oil Water Separators-Oil Separators are Similar to a grease interceptor and are generally used in car washes and garages to separate the oils from the water prior to entering the sanitary sewer system.
Sewage Lift Stations- Required where the sanitary sewer effluent needs to be "lifted" up to the main sewer line. This system needs to have a control panel with an alarm system for commercial applications. Generally, two pumps are required. In case one fails the other pump can automatically take over until the repair to the first pump is made.
