Common Signs That Your Heater Needs Repairs

dog-under-blanketWith the cooler weather of the winter season upon us, and regardless of the fact that our winters are much milder than those in other parts of the country, it is time to start thinking carefully about the overall condition and performance of your home heating system. Hopefully, you’ve already scheduled your annual heating maintenance in order to get your system ready for the coldest weather of the year. Even in doing so, though, you cannot make your heater 100% reliable.

While we may not be able to guarantee with certainty that you are never going to encounter the need for professional heating repairs in Brooksville, FL,  our team still wants to help. It’s just what we do. That is why we have put together some of the more common warning signs that heating repair needs are imminent. Keep your eyes—as well as your ears and nose—open for any of the following. Should you notice them in your home, remember that prompt heating repairs are always for the best.

Strange Sounds

Chances are that you are going to hear noise of some sort coming from your home heating system. Depending upon the location of your heat pump’s compressor, for instance, you may hear the system cycle on. You may hear your furnace blowing heated air throughout your ducts, perhaps more loudly in some spots than others. Any abnormal sounds coming from your heating system should be evaluated by a trained professional, however.

If you hear loud grinding sounds, if your system is screeching, or you hear something banging around in the furnace cabinet, then contact us right away. The fact that your heater is still producing heat does not mean that it is functioning properly, and continuing to force the system to operate under such conditions can lead to serious damages.

Odd Odors

Do you smell burning coming from your heating system? Can you smell what you believe to be fuel in your house? Aside from a light burning odor when you fire the system up for the first time of the season, you shouldn’t be able to smell your heater working. If you can, then your safety may actually be in danger.

Fuel leaks and electrical issues melting through wiring coverings should never be ignored. Your safety should not be in jeopardy just because you want to live comfortably in your home. If you smell something strange, let a member of our team know so that we can get to the bottom of the situation as soon as possible.

Cold Spots

Have you noticed that you feel cold spots throughout your home as you walk around?  Is this in spite of the fact that your heater used to function very effectively in heating your home evenly? If so, don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of our team.

Anything from a faulty blower fan to damaged ductwork or even malfunctioning zone control system equipment could be to blame. There are always a lot of potential causes of such problems. Only trained professionals can determine with certainty what has actually gone wrong.
